Maradona Strike Voted FIFA Goal of the Century

YOKOHAMA, Japan -- Argentine Diego Maradona's second goal against England in their 1986 Mexico World Cup quarterfinal has been voted FIFA Goal of the Century.

Maradona set off from inside his own half, evaded three defenders then beat goalkeeper Peter Shilton in Argentina's 2-1 victory.

A poll conducted on the FIFA website gave Maradona's goal 18,062 votes, Reuters reported.

England striker Michael Owen's goal in the second round match against Argentina in France four years ago was second with 10,631 votes and Pele's first goal in Brazil's 5-2 win over Sweden in the 1958 World Cup final in Stockholm third with 9,880.
